Lower divorce rate means fewer property division battles

For years, marriage experts have said that married people end up getting divorced 50 percent of the time. However, researchers recently reported that young people in California and elsewhere are more motivated to stay together now than they were in the past. This has caused theĀ divorce rate to dwindle nationally, thus leading to fewer altercations over matters like property division.
According to new research, the rate of marital dissolutions plummeted 18 percent between 2008 and 2016. One reason for the drop in the divorce rate is that young people are in no rush to walk down the aisle. Instead of focusing on marriage in their early 20s, they are trying to accomplish their personal goals as well as get their finances and careers on the right track.
In addition, there is apparently a greater push today than ever before among young people to listen to their partners. As a result, more young married people today compared with those in the past are finding that their needs are being met. The more that young people communicate with each other, the less likely they are to have conflict.
Divorce, of course, is sometimes unavoidable no matter how hard a couple may try to make their marriage work. In this case, the best situation is for the couple to try to tackle their divorce issues, like property division, via informal negotiations or divorce mediation rather than traditional divorce litigation. This may lead to a more amicable and, in turn, less-stressful divorce process. However, whether a person ends up going to divorce trial or tackling divorce issues outside of court, an attorney in California will push for the best outcome for him or her given the facts of the divorce case.
